VDO – A Strong Brand of the Continental Corporation

German engineering skills that stand the test of time

The company was formed in 1929 with the merger of Vereinigte DEUTA (Deutsche Tachometer-Werke GmbH) and OTA Apparate GmbH (Offenbacher Tachometer-Werke). Despite the company’s dynamic history, the VDO brand has not lost any of its charm – and for good reason. After all, it is difficult to find another brand to match VDO in standing for innovation and quality based on German engineering skills.

The Continental Corporation

Continental develops pioneering technologies and services for sustainable and connected mobility of people and their goods. Founded in 1871, the technology company offers safe, efficient, intelligent and affordable solutions for vehicles, machines, traffic and transport. In 2018, Continental generated preliminary sales of €44,4 billion and currently employs around 243,000 people in 60 countries.

The VDO Product Brand within the Corporation

Covering the Continental, VDO, ATE, GALFER and Barum product brands, the business unit offers electronic products, systems and services for commercial and special vehicles, a broad selection of products for specialized workshops and spare parts for the independent aftermarket and the original equipment services after production of the vehicle manufacturer.

NEW EU REGULATION COMING

Legally compliant recording

From June 15, 2019, newly registered or newly equipped vehicles over 3.5 metric tons that are used for commercial purposes must be fitted with a new-generation digital tachograph. The purpose of the new EU regulation 165/2014 is to further improve road safety, guarantee competition on the European domestic market and prevent the manipulation of digital tachographs.

The new Digital Tachograph legislation on June 15th, 2019 will bring great changes to the Transport Industry.
